Majority of Americans Don’t Agree with Obama
According to a Gallup Poll released Tuesday, February 3, the majority of Americans don’t agree with a couple of President Barack Obama’s executive orders. To review:
First, President Obama ordered a lifting of the ban (imposed by then-President George W. Bush) on federal funding being given to organizations who promote abortions overseas. Heralded as a victory for pro-abortion groups, this essentially gives money to “family planning” organizations that perform abortions or provide counseling to expectant mothers.
Second, he ordered to close the terrorist prison camp in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. While several Presidential candidates, including Mike Huckabee, advocated the closing of this prison, Obama ordered the closure without a plan to relocate the prisoners held there.
The percentages in this latest poll indicate Obama may be out of touch with popular sentiment — despite being one of the most popular presidents elected to office. Fifty-eight percent of Americans disagreed with his abortion-funding order, and only 35% supported it. Fifty percent disagreed with his Guantanomo prison closure order, and only 44% supported it.
The poll further found that Obama’s orders are especially unpopular with conservatives. Only 8% of Republicans support his abortion-funding order and only 11% support the prison closure.
These policies indicate that Obama’s demand for change in the White House goes only as far as the liberal mindset allows. By allowing for more funding of abortions, even outside our borders, the agenda of pro-abortion and general disregard for life is quickly taking shape. Further, without forming a concrete plan to relocate terrorist prisoners, Obama swiftly walked in to the same problem that his predecessor was accused of: no exit strategy. The excitement of getting in to office should be no excuse for this general disregard of Americans’ wishes.
