Jack Hoogendyk and Mike Huckabee
Before I give my thoughts and opinions this election, I would like to Give you Jack Hogendyk’s and Mike Huckabee’s encouragement.
Here Is Jack’s
Tuesday night was not a good one for Republicans, especially in Michigan. We lost Chief Justice Cliff Taylor, two great Congressmen in Walberg and Knollenberg, nine House seats; we were swept in all the other statewide races, and dozens of county and local races across the state went to the Democrats. Any true blue (or should I say “red”) Republican would have reason to feel depressed. I kind of expected to be depressed myself.
But, then Wednesday came, the sun came up, and in fact, it was a beautiful morning. I suddenly realized that this is America, the land of freedom, opportunity and liberty. We still live in the greatest country on earth, one that is guided by the rule of law and a Constitution which guarantees our right to free speech and expression.
Fellow Republicans, you have had a day to mourn. I challenge you to take off your sackcloth and ashes, anoint yourself and get back in the game. But lets do things a little differently from now on. Let me suggest:
- We recommit to the Core Principles upon which this great party was founded.
- We decide as a party to stand firm on ALL of those principles, talk of them and LIVE them.
- We commit to recruiting candidates for office who firmly believe in those principles.
- We encourage our party chairs and members to work together in unity of purpose to elect candidates who will bring about real reform of government.
I am an optimist in the spirit of Ronald Reagan. I am unswayed in my resolve that the things Republicans stand for are what is best for the family, the state and the country. Under the guidance of our Core Principles we will again have a strong economy, a state where you can raise and educate your children and see them stay when they finish school. We will again be a place where a very good job can be found, and we will continue to be one of the most beautiful places in America to live, work, and raise the family.
I took a beating in the polls, too on Tuesday night. But, I can assure you, I am not deterred. I still believe in the things I spoke of during the campaign. I am committed to serving this great state in whatever way I can. And I am convinced that if we all pull together as a party and work hard, it will again be “morning in Michigan.”
Regards,
Jack Hoogendyk

We will be back in strength…
I’m very proud to have supported Senator McCain and the only regret is that more Americans didn’t share my conviction that he would have made an outstanding President. I not only recognize, but respect that we are a nation in which the people choose and tonight they have chosen Senator Obama. He was not my choice, but he will be my President and I will pray for him to lead this great nation with God’s help and grace. He will face serious challenges to lead our country and he will need all Americans to give him a chance.
The campaign is over and now is the time for governing and leading. The Republican Party must now reassess where it is and where it is going. Our problem is not that our views aren’t acceptable, it is that many in our party have abandoned the very principles that once drew Americans to trust us. Our party will be back with strength, but tonight we should all celebrate the historic nature of this election and put our country ahead of our party.
As disappointed as I am that we have lost the election, I can’t help but feel that many courageous leaders of the civil rights movement look down from heaven tonight with a smile that the day has come when a man is elected without regard to his color. I salute President-elect Obama for his discipline and tenacity that has given our country the opportunity to witness this significant event.
Politics is not an event but a process. We sometimes lose the events but it never gives us the right to stop being faithful to our principles that enlisted us in the process. We shall live to fight another day.
With deep gratitude,

Joseph

Two great Americans. Let’s hope others realize this sooner, rather than later.
