Mark Schauer’s Primary Election Result Shows Weakness Outside His Home County

Aug 6, 2008

Even Democrat Voters are Rejecting His Tax Increases and Opposition to Drilling

Jackson, MI- Despite being the Senate Democratic Leader, raising $1.3 million, being endorsed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the entire Washington D.C. Democrat and liberal establishment, and outspending Sharon Renier 17 to 1, Mark Schauer defeated Renier 66 percent to 34 percent, but outside of his home county, Schauer only defeated Renier 57.7 percent to 42.3 percent. In addition, Congressman Walberg, who faced no primary opposition, received 39,315 votes compared to only 17,286 for Schauer and 26,257 for Schauer and Renier combined.

“Mark Schauer’s vote for the largest tax increase in Michigan history and his opposition to more American oil drilling was clearly rejected by a large number of Democrat primary voters yesterday. Independents, Republicans and many Democrats stand with Congressman Walberg in his fight to increase American energy production and to stop tax increases on families and small businesses,” said Justin Roebuck, Walberg’s campaign manager.

Today, Congressman Walberg unveiled his first television ad, titled “No More Excuses.” The advertisement includes Congressman Walberg riding his Harley-Davidson and sharing his plan to increase American energy production and develop wind and solar alternative energy sources. The ad can be viewed at www.walbergforcongress.com.
